Together with Otto Schott and Carl Zeiss, he developed numerous optical instruments. He was also a co-owner of Carl Zeiss AG, a German manufacturer of scientific microscopes, astronomical telescopes, planetariums, and other advanced optical systems.

Shouldn't it be 1g of soil to 9ml of water to account for different densities of individual soil samples?

Can someone PLEASE tell me what she means when she said "Shadowing or Differential Interference Contrast" I really don't want to get something that will barely work. I dont think she means darkfield, and DIC is hard to find or too expensive. I've been looking for months. i have talked to dozens of people and no one can give me a straight answer.

I bought a trinocular scope amd put it together, but there was no packing list. I have a little blue lens in a tiny zip-loc...does that go under the plate, facing the light?

Well crap. I acquired an old Nikon from University surplus, cleaned it all up-and began looking at things. 40x and 100x are pretty easy to deal with but when I go to 400x the floaters in my eye become the most fascinating thing in view. I've dimmed the room lights to help, but it doesn't really. Is there any way to reduce the visibility of my own floaters?

Would I be better of with a swift SW380B 40x-2500x, or an Omax XM82ESC02 40x-2000x????? Choosing one now!

What happens if I shake my sample for a lesser time but much more aggressively? Can one speed up that process or will aggressive shaking cause problems?

I know she will never see this, but I know a trick on starting threads like that. Here for everybody: get everything lined up close and then turn the male part backwards-until you feel or hear the click. Stop. Then turn proper into the threads and engage will be nearly instant. The click is when the ends of both threads pass each other whilst being pushed together. That sets them up for a fast engagement. If you don't find the click then you're not mating the leading threads together in the first place, try for better alignment and keep back turning until you find it. This is most helpful with threaded plastics and other soft materials where cross-threading could most easily occur.

A microscope is definitely on my things to do list for this year. I'm guessing the water used to prepare the soil sample isn't tap water but distilled!
